Our Final Synthesis and Roadmap for further evolution of the Arctic Observing System is published- and we will continue our involvement in the international Arctic observing scene also in 2026! Based on the work of our Arctic PASSION members, many discussions with and inputs from people involved in Arctic observing we have finished our synthesising report which describes where we started in 2021, summarises our actions and achievements and lays out visions and recommendations for a future Arctic Observing System of Systems (AOSS).

We have organised the document along themes that have been structuring our work and have a relevance for how Arctic Observing is developing further:

  1. What is a pan-Arctic Observing System of Systems and why is it needed?
  2. Equity and Inclusivity - making an AOSS useful for society
  3. Improving observational capacity and usefulness
  4. An Improved Arctic Data System
  5. Tailoring Data, Services, and Knowledge for End Users: Creating Societal Benefits Through an Arctic Observing System
  6. Structure and Governance, Sustainability and Resilience of an AOSS
  7. Interaction between actors and components of the AOSS
  8. Summary, Visions and Future Directions for the AOSS
  9. Appendix: Lessons learned regarding co-creation and regarding partnerships with Indigenous communities.

These will not be the last news from us. While the project will come to an end on December 31st, we will provide updates on our actions to further disseminate Arctic PASSION results on this platform. Our activities will include participation in international conferences with contributions and sessions also in 2026, such as:
