Several years ago, Arctic PASSION proposed to establish an Arctic Window of Copernicus, to make data relevant to Arctic region to easily accessible by standardised APIs for geospatial, both for data discovery and data access. The original concept of the Arctic Window evolved in parallel with the development of the Copernicus Arctic Hub, led by Mercator Ocean International under the WEkEO framework, and Arctic PASSION adapted its approach to provide a comprehensive, value-adding analysis of existing the Copernicus services.
The analysis offers insights that are particularly valuable to stakeholders engaged with Arctic environmental data, and to support future advancements, Arctic PASSION puts forward nine actionable recommendations and defines three essential requirements that could inform the evolution of the Arctic Hub or related initiatives toward a more cohesive and sustainable Arctic Window of Copernicus. The assessment supports the shared vision of a more integrated, user-friendly, and operationally robust Arctic data ecosystem.
